Once you reach the top, you will get a panoramic view of Komodo Islands and Flores Sea from above.
On rainy season the grass will have a beautiful green color. On dry season however, they are going to turn bright yellow. You can also watch the sunset from up the hills, where some people usually play some music around that time.

The fire accident
About a year ago, there are major accident happened in Gili Lawa Darat. Some local tourists who took pre-wedding photos around the area reportedly cause a fire and burn quite a large portion of the savannah. Although the locals are trying hard to prevent further damage, the fire had already spread far enough to leave the area covered in flames.
It wasn’t clear what actually caused it. Some say one of the cameramen start a firework and the grass catch the fire. Others said someone was smoking and toss the remains irresponsibly. The government decided they won’t rehabilitate the area. They prefer to wait for the natural process to take place so the grass is going to regrow on their own.
Is it save to be visited with luxury liveaboard Komodo again?
Despite what happened in the past, Gili Lawa currently is in a good condition again and you can still enjoy trekking the area and take great photos. Though, some people do say the island is less beautiful than before. This is why we as a tourist should be cautious about our activities that could permanently damage the environment.
